Statement from Ontario’s Big City Mayors (OBCM) on the appointment of Prime Minister Mark Carney and new Federal Cabinet
March 14, 2025
Ontario’s Big City Mayors (OBCM) would like to congratulate the Right Honourable Mark Carney on being sworn in as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister. We also congratulate the newly appointed and returning members of the federal cabinet sworn in today, and look forward to continuing working closely with Nate Erskine-Smith as the returning Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.
As municipalities navigate complex challenges, we look forward to building a strong and productive relationship with Prime Minister Carney and his cabinet. At a time when municipalities are working alongside our federal and provincial government colleagues to address the shared challenges of the impact of tariffs on our communities, we are encouraged to see the cooperation between Prime Minister Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford, as they put country ahead of party to tackle pressing national issues.
OBCM urges the federal government to continue to collaborate with municipalities to find solutions on key issues impacting Canadians: accelerating housing construction, ensuring long-term sustainable support for critical infrastructure, and addressing the mental health, addictions and homelessness crisis happening on our streets. By working together, we can help create thriving, liveable communities across Ontario and Canada for all of our residents to enjoy.
