MARKHAM, ON – At their meeting in Markham on Friday, Ontario’s Big City Mayors (OBCM) elected new members to their executive committee.
Mayor Alex Nuttall of Barrie was elected Vice-Chair, Mayor Elizabeth Roy of Whitby was named Secretary and Mayor Bryan Peterson was acclaimed, and will be returning to the Board as Treasurer. They will join current Chair Mayor Marianne Meed Ward of Burlington and Past-Chair Cam Guthrie of Guelph who will continue their terms. The new members will officially join the committee in December for a two year term.
“I am extremely grateful to the members who have stepped forward to serve on the executive and I look forward to working with new members and returning,” said Marianne Meed Ward, Chair of OBCM and Mayor of Burlington. “We are stronger as an organization when we have collaborative leadership working together for the benefit of the caucus on the tough issues we all face.”
OBCM’s executive committee leads the caucus of 29 mayors from Ontario’s largest cities. Their role includes representing OBCM at various meetings/events with provincial and federal government representatives, partner municipal organizations and other stakeholders. They also work with staff to develop OBCM policies, and organize meetings as well as work with their mayoral colleagues to identify key priorities for the organization.
OBCM wants to thank outgoing executive committee members – Mayor Josh Morgan of London and Mayor Rob Burton of Oakville for their hard work and dedication to their roles.
